Nature’s Classroom Institute and Montessori School, set on over 150 idyllic acres, in rural Mukwonago WI, bases its outdoor and nature focused Montessori program on Dr. Maria Montessori’s fundamental belief in the deep connection between children and Nature. This is reflected in the daily outdoor start that all our classrooms have. The Children’s House students spend a minimum of 45 minutes after drop off playing in the woods, prairies or hayfields, the Elementary students leave for their Morning Exploration (an intentional hike to a spot chosen by students), while the Adolescent students head to our farm that they manage (housing over 80 animals and birds) to complete the morning chores. There is no maximum time limit on the daily outdoor time our students have – but certainly a minimum of at least 2 hours each school day.
The grounds are covered in wonderful places to explore including fields, woodland and wetlands. Our students spend as much time outside as possible.
We have an onsite farm that the school uses to support various lessons from simple animal husbandry to the business of sales and marketing.
